What is a Trolley?

A trolley is a lifting device attached to the bridge of a crane used to navigate and move the hoist that is suitable for the job. A hoist suspended from a trolley. The trolley moves the hoist along the girder on the bridge of the crane. The hoist moves horizontally along either the top or underside of the bridge or I-beam to locate it above rated load. Trolley's are one of the earliest conveyor types, being simple to plan, install, and use, this lift device makes them one of the most affordable ways to move products on a crane. Use a trolley when products can easily be linked to the trolley with a mount, and when moving simple products from location one to another location. Actively providing product around a curve or curves to lift and lower product.

A trolley is a type of suspension coming off a crane, mostly overhead crane systems. Trolley mounted crane hoist can be either hook mounted, clevis, or lug mounted suspended from a trolley or trolleys. Hook mounted trolley hoists are mounted to the cranes frame and typically have roller load chain or welded link load chain as the lifting medium. The hoist can be suspended from the clevis or suspension pin of trolley. Lug mounted trolley hoists are distinguished from a lug mounting attached to the hoist frame or integrated into the hoist.

Hoist may attach to a trolley using a hook or clevis, or a hoist may become part of the trolley. Hoist trolleys are compatible with either a I-beam or W-beam, utilizing either a flat or tapered wheel to operate down the beams or bridge.

Types of Trolleys

There are three types of trolleys. Low headroom trolley is the best solution for single girder cranes from its compact design allowing maximum space above the hoist trolley. A normal headroom trolley is used for monorail and jib crane applications. Double girder trolley gives superior clearance for more headroom for lifting a load. These options are an easy way to access and move an item when lowering above the standard lift. The chain wraps around the drum and links utilizes a chain container when inches matter.

Operated Manually

A plain trolley (also called manual or push beam trolleys) can be operated manually to horizontally move the attached hoist. The motion of travel is obtained by pulling or pushing the load with either a pendant control or by some other means(manual or manually). Plain Beam trolleys are made to freely travel the beam flange length its fastened too. This effortlessly allows operators to fill loads and move them with ease. When motion is infrequent or relatively short, plain or push trolleys are recommended.

Geared Trolleys

A wire rope or hand chain can be operated to grasp and pull the trolley system. Geared trolleys are ideal for shorter distances and higher loads. The major difference between plain trolley is the fitted wheels with gears and a chain. The gears and chain links so that when either side of the chain is pulled, the trolley will move along the beam flange in either direction.

Electric Powered or Air Powered Trolleys

The lifting medium is achieved by a motor that is activated by a control device used to for trolley travel. Both electric and air hoists activate a control device, causing the trolley to travel in one direction. The button to lift and lower the hoist may also control the speed of the lift wheel because the hoist is motor operated and doesn't use a rope or chain. This will provide quicker services of loading and lowering of content in a facility.

Electric Trolley Hoists

Electric trolley hoists (also called motorized trolley hoists) load heavy-duty items for rough environments. The electric wire rope hoist is one of the fastest operational hoists, designed for heavier load-bearing capacity. This hoist truly delivers power and efficiency required in a factory. An electric trolley hoist will save time in an operation by removing the manual labor needed to guide the load.

Air Trolley Hoists

Air chain hoists are used for flammable, dusty, dirty environments. Electricity free, air powered trollies have no electrical arcing hazard that may cause explosions. Operate both the trolley and the air hoist to freely move the hoist up and down a beam effortlessly.

Lifting Medium

The easy-to operate trolley and air hoist will have you effortlessly moving up or down the beam with just one touch.

CM Cyclone Integrated Trolley Hoist

The CM Cyclone Hoist features a combined hoist and a trolley to increase headroom for even lower headroom applications. The reduced headroom, side clearance, and end approach easily maneuvers loads in tight places. The Cyclone trolley has the most interchangeability of parts out of its competition for hand chain hoists. The frame is highly durable with its aluminum alloy castings along with its rugged alloy chain that adds strength for greater lifts. Lastly, the Weston-type brakes offer a smooth, efficient lifting control for accurate load control.

CM Hurricane 360 Integrated Trolley Hoist

The CM Hurricane 360 is available in an army-type, integrated hoist. With the same general features as the hook-mounted version, the CM Hurricane 360 hoist has a low-headroom design to reach the tightest of spaces. Choose from plain and geared versions, manual hurricane 360 trolleys are easily adjusted to fit a wide range of beam widths depending on the beam flange width. The wheels are smooth rolling from its pre-lubricated ball bearings encapsulated inside.

Hurricane 360 plain trolley comes in capacities from 1/2 to 5 tons while the hurricane 360 geared trolley is available from 1/2 to 20 tons.
